The Nut-tiest of All..

She's finally left us. Yet another one of our clan member left the country to pursue her studies. This time it's Hazel and I was there to send her off. It was also my first time at KLIA..~ XD I know. For 6 years that I've been here but I never took the initiative to visit it.. Anyways, here's some pictures we took before the Hazelnut herself left KLIA for Changi airport. Yes,she had a 5-hour transit in Singapore before departing to Germany. Kasihan...

Hazel and her friend,Sylvia, who's going to the same Uni as her..

Hazel and her "man"-hair.. XD

We'll miss you!

Well,we'll surely miss our dear friend. Take care and be good! Hope to see you REALLL soon. (Or at least before it's my turn to go) Gott segne~

Alive & Kicking

I'm currently facing my semester finals with two papers already completed but four more stacks of dead plant to mentally devour. It's excruciating. The end of this exam period will be comparable to the end of SPM, and boy is that end taking it's time to get here.

Until that end comes, I'm not sure I can give you guys a real post. And yes, I know a proper post is a long time coming from me, which is why i posted THIS. It's a nifty reminder to you guys (The Rojak Clan) that I still remember our blog's existence and that I will be making an effort to soon post something properly thought up and constructed, as oppose to the excuse-of-a-post this is.

With that ending note I'd just like to post one rhetorical, not-meant-for-your-answering, heart-venting question...

WHY DO THE SINGAPOREANS GET THE OPPORTUNITY TO CATCH MY FAVOURITE AUTHOR NEIL GAIMAN LIVE IN ACTION IN THEIR COUNTRY WHILST I'M STUCK HERE STARING ENVIOUSLY AT THEIR WEB PAGE???

Being Old Rocks!

I take my hat off to this particular bank for taking into consideration the welfare of senior citizens who have played minor role if not a major one in building up the country.

However during the 45 minutes queuing, I observed a handful of graying aunties and uncles (not to mention even a couple of amas' and kong kongs') who insisted on joining the 'young people' queue with everyone else thus making the waiting line longer.

2 possible reasons which may explain their actions crossed my mind :
  1. there's a high possibility that some of these senior citizens were illiterate
  2. or perhaps, they were just simply too shy to admit that they were well above the age of 50, firmly believing that their looks won't deceive them
But what most people fail to realize is that being old is in fact a blessing in disguise.
For example, senior citizens are being offered discounts almost anywhere they go.
Movies, stage performances & even petrosains... so why grumble when you've hit that golden age.
Imagine boarding a relatively full bus with no empty sits. Why worry about feeling tired standing throughout the whole journey when all you have to do is just ask the nearest young man to give up his sit & hey presto! I'm sure he won't be able to say no to an elderly.

So perhaps this gives us something to look forward to as we grow older ;)

Boohoo.

And I finally sat down long enough at the computer

It has been the craziest of weeks that classes (hmmmm..... is that important or what?) seemed rather anti-climatic.

And here's something you guys are dying to see...

My room! I love the duvet cover. And the desk further confirms my mother's hypotheses that flat surfaces are mess magnets in Yihui's space.

And this is the view from my room.

It isn't Charles River and Boston view (which btw is gorgeous) but Simmons Hall make a good substitute I would say. In addition to that there is another view

Footballers in very tight clothing. Quote someone I can't remember 'It's like rugby except they just ram into each other. It's dumb."

And I put that all up because I just had to show my incredibly cute duvet cover.

If there's any time to visit MIT, Orientation and Rush week would be the best time ever. Where else can you ride on stuff like these:

That's a hovercraft. I went on that and levitated like a buddha for 2min.

And THAT is an East Campus roller coaster! Didn't go on this one despite many reassurances that it is perfectly safe by an East Campus resident. The cart flew into the air during the test run and they added mattresses at the end to stop that. But it is still the coolest thing ever! There was water flowing down the side that drips according to the rhythm of the music played for the dance floor. It's a pure gravity ride by the way, no hydraulics or anything. :D

This sign contributed to my not going on the ride too.

No one died this year either.

To add to that, free food was everywhere for about 2 weeks. And I tried liquid nitrogen ice cream for the first time! (Home made ice cream where they pour liquid nitrogen into flavoured creamy milk and this mist would surround the ice cream like in a potions lesson at Hogwarts. Awesome) There were many other firsts: toilet paper dodgeball (haha the whole lounge was covered in toilet paper when we were done), midnight tours (email me if you want the details to that event.. That's a secret :D), watched an improv, involved in making a short film that's on youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GuirS-yFD1A), watched the best talent show I've ever seen in the Freshman Arts Program, ate 17 scoops of ice cream in 13min with 4 others, race go karting at 45 miles/hour, dance party on a boat cruise...

The last three were rush events where fraternities hold awesome events like that to get the best guys to attend and join their frats as well as girls to attract more guys to come. Which is where I get to go. :D They spend about 1/2 a million within a week and there were so many incredible events that it was so hard to pick and choose. Six Flags (theme park), or Go Kart or Paintball? Steak & Lobster dinner or BBQ? Red Sox Game? Incredibly difficult questions usually answered by 'how near are we to this frat house?'.

It's coming to an end now though. As the frat parties got more private, the roller coaster taken down piece by piece, upperclassmen filed onto campus, we're moving on.

Welcome to Hell! (It really is written on the ground halfway to MIT from Harvard Bridge: Halfway to Hell.) There's a story too for why Harvard Bridge is named Harvard despite it's vicinity to MIT. But that'd have to wait. :D

Yihui out!

Missing!

Fellow bloggers at rojaklah.blogspot.com.

#1 Roy

#2 Cheryl

#3 Nickolai

#4, #5, #6 Lily, Sarah, Yihui

For a while now, there has been no word from them. What's going on in their lives? Why are they so silent? Well maybe if they're still safe and sound, this will encourage them to blog more often. Please do! Some people are thinking that this blogger blogging so often is a sign of her lifelessness.

Well moving on to blogger #7, Hazel.

1. This person has recently acquired a 500gb Buffalo!

K just kidding la. Not that, but this.

Am very proud of it! Even though my brother said it's a waste of money.

2. Was watching a show called "I Shouldn't Be Alive" the other day. They told the story of how two guys were sort of shipwrecked on an island called Guardian Angel, which is a completely uninhabited island, and nearly died there cos well it's uninhabited and there's no food OR water there.

See this island that's called Guardian Angel? Completely barren. Kesian la the person who gets a guardian angel like this. And it's so ironic actually that people can die of thirst at sea or on islands where the water is ALL AROUND.

3. I started playing Geo Challenge on Facebook also. It's quite addictive! Sumore I'm very pro edi now. With a score of 27000++ I dah qualified to be a travel writer! And ah, just look at the flags of all the countries wei.

Albania

Swaziland

Wales

If I had grown up drawing these as my national flag, I would've died la. Be functional! Like this. My favourite of all.

Flag of Libya

4. Found this too. It's a rough formula to predict the height of children.

For guys: Sum of parents' height divided by two, then add 6.5cm.
For girls: Sum of parents' height divided by two, then minus 6.5cm.

It's supposed to be quite accurate lo, but apparently not for my family. Cos I'm still short by 6cm and by brother has extra 6cm. You see la.

5. A guy from the US was on Discovery last week. This guy has been blind since a very young age. Then when he was around 7 years old, he started making clicking sounds (like how dolphins do). Now he's the only human who uses echolocation to get around! He can even tell different materials apart using his clicks. Like a ringing sound would be glass and something more muted would be cloth? And tell where there's a wall in front of him or where's an open space and stuff like that. Geng ler.

6. Going to end this post with a video Pn. Shirley showed me. It's hilarious! Watch it.

Helloooo Nerdy.

Just collected my new glasses from Sydney Optic a while ago. Due to the considerable difficulty of lugging bottles of contact lenses solution from here all the way to Germany and the high cost of solution there, I have decided to stop wearing contact lenses. Oh the horror.

How do I look?

*smile* Hmm looks okay hor?

It's wider than my face!

*sigh* Nerdi-hood, here I come.

***

Very scary lah to open this page and see so many copies of my face here. XD

Naked boys. =P

Mom showed me this video which was sent to her by my aunt. So obscene la! But obscenely funny. It's a video of four boys dancing naked in a talent show. XD

Watch it! It's farrrrney. =D

My mother.

Looking like a model! (Or so she says. XD)

I have a strange mother. The day my brother was born, she said: "Yer! Why like that one?! He looks like a monkey!" Because my brother was long, dark and thin. And she likes telling me now that when EYE was born, I looked like a pig. Because I had thunder thighs LIKE NORMAL BABIES DO, she said they looked like pig legs. =.= See what I get at home!

This woman is the one who ruled over the first 12 years of my life with an iron fist.

She is the reason I actually attempted to finish the ridiculous amount of homework they gave at Lick Hung (though I never succeeded, and in Standard 6 she was asked to meet four of my subject teachers) and also the reason I practised the piano when I could've been playing Gameboys and Playstations. She is the reason my brother and I never had a Playstation and only got to watch Cartoon Network for around two months. She made my dad cancel the subscription after that.

She is why I now eat almost anything put on my plate. When we were small, she would make us try every type of food she cooked. First came one piece of veg/meat. Don't like it? Don't WANT it? Okay, then here comes one whole huge scoop!

She is also why I once got so scared/desperate, ran to the storeroom, found her cane, and threw it out of the window. I used to do really stupid things lo like throw my food out of the back windows, hoping the cats there would eat it. And then when you do stupid things like these, of course get punished lo. I spent many many hours screaming and pleading in fright as she brandished the cane. Later I learned from my kor that I should have thrown the food away in school instead. XD

BUT!

Now that I'm 18 and legal and not so stupid anymore, I seriously don't know how she could've been such a tyrant. Now I see her being laughed at for being a 'rice bucket', because you can give her anything for dinner as long as RICE is included. Belanja her a Japanese meal at an incredibly expensive restaurant where people usually eat sashimi, and what does she order? GARLIC RICE!

Even I laugh at her sometimes because she's so gullible, she'd believe almost anything you tell her. My uncle exploits this weakness of hers with great enthusiasm. But really, I think if you told her Mother Teresa could breakdance, she'd believe you.

And it's really embarrassing sometimes when we go to places like Genting and all I want to play are the bumper cars, while SHE goes on the Corkscrew. We went to Movieworld at the Gold Coast last last year, and she went on the SUPERMAN...

... while my dad and I waited outside for her. It's so scary you know! Just looking at how the track twists here and there and up and down and in and out made my legs weak.

Oh and now she's also my teman for talking about really random stuff I'm stuck at home. Today we saw a weird palm tree which had its fruits growing at the base. I commented that it's growing old edi. She looked at me, blinked awhile, then started whacking me over the head. RM5 to the person who guesses correctly what I meant! =D

Today we celebrated her birthday!

And we gave her this.

So she now has the beautiful-est and expensiv-est and slimmest phone in the house.

And here she is, checking out her new toy.

She's so pretty ler... A few people commented before that we look like sisters! And my aunt said she has a smaller butt. Plus she's taller and slimmer than me! Oh the horror. Haih never mind lah, I let her win. =P

And my brother actually smiles now! Leng chai ler... Will give his number out at the right price. XD

Hmm okay enough crapping edi,

Happy Birthday Ma!

=)
